PPP wants PM Nawaz to be held accountable first: Aitzaz

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership want accountability process to begin from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in connection with the Panama Papers.

A delegation of PPP led by Aitzaz Ahsan met with MQM leadership here at the latter’s headquarters to discuss matters relating to the probe commission constituted by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a televised address.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, Aitzaz Ahsan said Mian sahib himself finalized the terms of reference (TORs) goverving the probe commission by consulting his own party members for his own inquiry.

Aitzaz said PPP and MQM agreed on hiring of services of an international forensic firm for probing the Panama leaks. “The government should have used consultation from day one,” he added.

Dr Farooq Sattar said the TORs and forensic matters must be finalized through agreement among all the stakeholders.

He feared that if a way out was not agreed upon through consultation the situation may lead to further instability in the country.
