Sindh govt surrenders services of 'upright' AD Khowaja

KARACHI: The Sindh government has told the Centre that the services of IG Police AD Khowaja are no longer required and suggested names of three officers to be considered for the top post.

A letter, dated 31st March, to the Secretary Establishment Division stated that the 'Government of Sindh has decided to surrender the services of Mr Allah Dino Khowaja' without mentioning any reason.

However, Senior Minister Nisar Khuhro told media that the PPP had appointed him but now the incumbent IGP is facing trial in a court.

In a letter to the Federal government, the provincial authorities surrendered the services of IGP Khowaja and proposed names of Khadim Hussain Bhatti, a Grade-21 officer and currently posted as Additional IG Traffic; Ghulam Qadir Thebo, serving as Chairman Anti-Corruption Establishment; and Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti, another Grade-21 officer of Police Service of Pakistan and working as Additional IG Research Development, Inspections and Enquiries.

The police chief had earlier been sent on forced leave couple of months ago by the PPP government reportedly because of differences on appointments in the force and investigation about SSP Malir Rao Anwaar.

Analyst Mazhar Abbas told The News that AD Khowaja is an upright officer and the PPP is unhappy with him on several issues. ‘They had tried to remove him earlier as well because he refused to accept the pressure.’

Commenting on the merit of the three officers recommended, he said the PPP government would prefer having Qadir Thebo appointed as the police chief.
