Nawaz not stepping down due to stubbornness: Khuhro
Says Dr Asim’s case is different from the Panama case; three senior officials

recommended to the federal govt for new IG’s appointment

KARACHI: President of Pakistan People’s Party in Sindh Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should have stepped down––owing to the involvement of his and his sons’ names in the “notorious” case being heard by the courts.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, the Sindh PPP chief said that the prime minister instead of stepping down had been continuing as the country’s premier owing to his stubbornness. He said that the name of the country had been tarnished on international level owing to the case being heard by the judiciary involving the names of prime minister and his sons.

Responding to a question, Khuhro said that the difference between the case against Dr Asim Hussain and the one on basis of Panama Leaks was that the allegations against Dr Hussain had been levelled by an opponent govt while the Panama Leaks was an international case.

He said that PPP in the past had accepted the elections of “ROs” (returning officers) out of compulsion.

To a question, he said that the Sindh government had appointed AD Khowaja as the inspector-general of Sindh Police while the courts at the moment were hearing matters related to AD Khowaja. “For this reason, the provincial govt had recommended three names of senior police officials to the federal govt for the appointment of new IG,” he said.

Khuhro said that the federal govt had been trying to hide the results of population census drive being conducted in the country as people of Sindh had reservations about the census campaign. He said that the people of Sindh knew well about the bad intentions of federal government in this regard.

Responding to a question about release of PPP Karachi President Dr Asim Hussain, he said that two to three months had passed since Dr Hussain had been made chief of Karachi chapter of the Pakistan People’s Party while PPP had been continuing with its political activities in the city as it would do so in the future.

On this occasion, MQM leader and former provincial minister K S Mujahid Baloch along with his political associates announced to join PPP. Nisar Khuhro welcomed their decision to join the PPP.
