PM Nawaz strongly condemns Mashal Khan’s murder

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday strongly condemned the murder of Mashal Khan at the Wali Khan University, Mardan, calling the nation to stand united to condemn the crime and to promote tolerance as well as rule of law in the society.

The prime minister said, in a statement issued by his office, “I am shocked and saddened by the senseless display of mob justice that resulted in the murder of a young student Mashal Khan at Wali Khan University, Mardan.”

“Let it be known to the perpetrators of this act that the state shall not tolerate citizens taking the law in their own hands, “it added.

He said that the police had been ordered to arrest those responsible for the murder.

“No father should have to send his child off to be educated, with the fear of having him return in a coffin,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court on Saturday charged eight students with murder and terrorism. The court also granted police four days physical remand of the suspects.

The police have arrested 12 people in connection with the murder of Mashal Khan while raids were being conducted to nab four more suspects.
