Chinese to English and Urdu dictionary launched

LAHORE: The first Chinese to English and Urdu dictionary prepared by the Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) was formally launched along with the second edition of Chinese Learning book at a law college here on Friday.

Deputy Consul General of China Wang Daxue, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson Prof Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin, PCJCCI President Wang Zihai, Secretary General M Salahuddin Hanif, the law college dean, Prof Humayun Ihsan, were also present.

A cake-cutting ceremony was also held to celebrate Pak-China friendship while two Pakistani students also sang Chinese songs on the occasion.

Wang Daxue highlighted the importance of Chinese and Urdu language in the backdrop of CPEC, urging the Chinese nationals in Pakistan to learn Urdu language.

The deputy consul general especially mentioned the Punjab government’s initiatives for the promotion of Chinese language and lauded its programme under which 500 students would be sent to China to learn the Chinese language. He added that 300 of these students had already started learning in some of the top universities of China. He also acknowledged the foresightedness of PCJCCI for realising the need of an exclusive dictionary designed for the convenience of people of China and Pakistan.

Dr Nizam said learning Chinese language had become essential. He mentioned Punjab government’s programme for Pakistani students to learn Chinese language. He, however, also underscored the need of transfer of technology from China to universities and higher education institutions of Pakistan. “Beyond language, we can learn a lot from China”, he said and requested the deputy consul general to send delegation of best universities in China to Pakistan.
