Demand for PM’s resignation unjustifiable: Zafarul Haq

By: Online

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq has said that opposition parties have accepted the Supreme Court (SC) decision, which did not come against the prime minister (PM), so demanding the premier's resignation was unjustifiable.

Talking to reporters outside the National Assembly on Friday, he said that even the SC was not authorised under Article 3/184 of the constitution to sack any elected person from his office or suspend his membership.

"We had earlier said that we would accept the SC decision as it is. Our leadership will hold consultations with the legal experts on the issue of referring the case to the Joint Investigation Team (JIT). We will evolve our strategy within the legal and constitutional parameters." We neither abuse judges of the SC nor do we ridicule any institution."

Opposition knows it well that the allegations levelled by it against Nawaz Sharif cannot be proved in the JIT, therefore, they stand disappointed, he underscored.

He said that Nawaz Sharif would emerge successful in the next general election. He said a majority of the opposition had refused to listen to their elected chairman in Senate, therefore, he had to adjourn the Upper House's session.
