Tasneem says Pakistan Embassy at Tripoli assisting stranded Pakistanis to evacuate

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has set up a Crisis Management Cell at the Foreign Office for effectively coordinating efforts to facilitate the evacuation of stranded Pakistanis in Libya, said Tasneem Aslam, a spokesperson for the Foreign Office.

During a weekly briefing here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she said that the cell – set up on the directives of the prime minister – would work to monitor the evolving security situation in Libya and to coordinate efforts for evacuation of Pakistani Diaspora.

The Crisis Management Cell will be headed by a director general and assisted by two directors and operate round the clock. In Libya, security situation has deteriorated over the past few days and the Pakistan Embassy at Tripoli was assisting stranded Pakistanis to evacuate, the spokesperson said.

In the last few days, the embassy has already facilitated evacuation of over 2500 Pakistanis to Tunisia. She said that all Pakistan missions in the region have been advised to make concerted efforts to assist Pakistanis evacuation from Libya through their respective areas of jurisdiction.

In Tunisia, the Pakistan Embassy has also set up a Camp Office at Zarzis near Ras-Jedir Check Post on Libya-Tunisia border to assist transiting Pakistanis, the spokesperson said.
