Ambassador-designate to Portugal calls on president

ISLAMABAD - Leena Salim Moazzam, Pakistan's Ambassador-designate to Portugal called on President Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday and discussed matters regarding her new diplomatic assignment.

Felicitating the ambassador-designate on her new assignment, the president said that Pakistan and Portugal enjoy close and cordial relations and that Pakistan was keen to further cement and diversify its ties with Portugal in all areas especially politics, trade and commerce.

The president said that Pakistan's current bilateral trade with Portugal stands at US $123 million which does not commensurate with the real trade potential existing between the two countries.

He urged the ambassador-designate to focus on further enhancing the existing bilateral trade by encouraging the Chambers of Commerce and business communities of the two countries.

The president advised the newly appointed ambassador to encourage Portuguese companies and investors to invest in Pakistan and avail the various incentive packages and investment-friendly policies of the government of Pakistan

The ambassador-designate thanked the president for reposing confidence in her and assured that she would focus on boosting Pakistan's bilateral ties with Portugal with focus on enhancing trade, business and commercial activities.
