'I'm not running away from Pakistan'
Ex-president says he will defend himself in all cases

ISLAMABAD – Former president Pervez Musharraf has said that he would not be running away from Pakistan as he is ready to defend himself in all cases before a court of law.

"I am not running away from Pakistan. Rather I will defend myself in all cases in courts,” he told his supporters via telephone. The former president said that the cases against him were politically motivated and baseless.

He said he was not afraid of fake cases and said he will face every case filed against him in different courts. He said he was no stranger to difficult circumstances and passed more difficult times during service in the army as well as during presidency in the shape of pressures.

“I have to go out of Pakistan only to see my ailing mother and will return back to you,” he said, adding that he would live and die in Pakistan. About his health, Musharraf said that he was well now and only one of his tests was to be done out of Pakistan.

He condemned the Model Town incident and condoled with the families of those who had lost their lives. On the occasion, All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) elected Musharraf as chairman of the party for the next term.

Currently, the former president is residing in Karachi where he is receiving treatment at PNS Shifa Hospital after undergoing a heart ailment in the midst of the treason trial initiated by the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif against him.
