NewsGilani asks PM Nawaz to allow protest in Islamabad
KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior Vice Chairman and former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to allow people to stage protest in Islamabad.
Talking to media at Karachi Press Club, Gilani said that Nawaz Sharif should remember his time when he led a long march from Lahore against PPP government. He asked Prime Minister to allow people to stage protest in the capital and said that if permitted, the protestors would return peacefully to their homes after staging protest.
Gilani said that baring people from peaceful protest would create a clash like situation which would not be in favor of the country.
What threat Nawaz Sharif is feeling from the protestors, he asked, adding that the current situation was developed due to the narrow mindedness of the government. He said that the government had not paid any attention towards parliament.
This crisis could have been averted if the government had paid attention towards parliament, he said, adding that the government had power of 18 million people behind it to tackle this situation.
Gilani said that as per the constitution, every Pakistani has the right to stage protest and government should go along with the constitution otherwise complications would be created which would be harmful for the country.
The former premier said that Zulfikar Bhutto and Benazir started the journey of democracy in the country and PPP would safeguard it at any cost.
In our tenure Nawaz Sharif and Tahirul Qadri launched long marches but we did not stop anyone, he said, adding that PPP had set up water facilities for Qadri’s long march to facilitate the protestors. (PPI)
