NA approves resolution to save democracy
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution to save democracy and protect supremacy of the constitution. The resolution tabled by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal was passed unanimously.
The resolution states that Pakistan was formed through the efforts of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah on the principles of democracy. It added that the present government and parliament is working for the supremacy of the democracy in accordance with the constitution.
The National Assembly session is being held with the looming long marches of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on August 14. There has been heated debate over the political situation in the country during the session.
Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami party (PkMAP) Chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that any evil eye cast on the parliament and our mandate would be gouged out.
The PkMAP chief said that democracy and parliament was not given by anyone in charity rather it was achieved through long struggle and great sacrifices of democratic forces.
