Govt, opposition should refrain from any unconstitutional step: Altaf

KARACHI: Founder leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain has made a passionate appeal to both the government and the opposition to show political acumen and sagacity in view of the critical situation of the country and refrain from every kind of unconstitutional and illegal step and confrontation. He said formal dialogues should be started to resolve all issues by mutual understanding and accommodation. He made this appeal in his interview to a private news channel.
Hussain said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Federal Cabinet, Chief Minister of the Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and the provincial Cabinet to show political acumen after explanations given by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri.
The MQM wants the long-standing demands of Mr Khan and Dr Qadri should be deliberated upon and conflict and confrontation should be avoided at all costs, he said.
Committee consisting of three to four people should be formed for opening dialogues with Mr Khan and Dr Qadri and efforts should be made to find a way out of the present situation, he added.
He said the MQM was ready to offer unconditional support in this regard. He said the operation Zarb-e-Azb was underway in North Waziristan against terrorists and the Army was heavily engaged with the militants and the Indian Army was doing heavy firing in the Sialkot Sector.
It is necessary for both the government and the opposition to show caution and extreme seriousness and think about national security and existence by setting aside political interests.
Hussain said people were shifting their investment to foreign countries because of internal situation prevailing in Pakistan, which has adversely affected the economy of the country. It is the responsibility of both the government and the opposition to save the country and put the country on the path of economic recovery.
The government should show large-heartedness and initiate the dialogues, as it was the constitutional responsibility of the government to accept legitimate demands of the opposition and to solve problems being faced by the masses. MQM leader said both the government and the opposition should show some flexibility in their attitude for starting the dialogue and leading it to a meaningful conclusion.
He warned if the government and the opposition refused to give up their stubbornness and did not avail the opportunity, the results would be detrimental for the country.
He appealed to the owners of medical stores in Lahore to donate medicines at the camp of the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation in Model Town. He appealed to the doctors and paramedical staff to spare some time for the participants of the Youm-e-Shuhada.
