Turkmenistan to export electricity to Pakistan, neighbours

BISHKEK – Vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Murad Artykov has said that the rapid construction of substations and high-voltage power lines to the border with Afghanistan will assist to deliver Turkmen electricity to Pakistan, Tajikistan and other neighbouring states.
In order to increase the volume of exported electricity from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Lebap and Mary provinces hold constructions of 9 facilities, including 900 kilometers of five power lines and four substations.
“To date, three 220 kV power lines have been completed. 500 kv Mary, 220 kv Watan and 220 kv Farap power stations have been rehabilitated. Construction of a power transmission line from Mary HPP to Atamyrat will be finished soon,” the Vice PM said.
In addition, Afghanistan plans to build several high-voltage power lines until 2018 in order to receive Turkmen electricity at full capacity and transit it to Pakistan.
