Shahbaz denies 'resignation' rumours
Law minister says no such option under consideration

ISLAMABAD – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday denied reports that the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government was considering his resignation as the chief executive of the largest province of Pakistan as a mean to end the political crisis in Islamabad.
Earlier, a private news channel reported that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was informed about the decision of Shahbaz Sharif's resignation from the post of the chief minister during a meeting held between the two brothers on Sunday at Jaati Umra, a private residence of the Sharif brothers in Raiwind. Punjab Law Minister Rana Mashhood categorically rejected the reports that the option of the chief minister’s resignation was under consideration.
Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Shaukat Basra had claimed that the government was ready to register the first information report (FIR) over the Model Town incident, which had claimed the lives of at least 14 people on June 17, and was also considering the option of Shahbaz Sharif's resignation. Basra had further said that Raja Ashfaq Sarwar and Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman were being considered as options for the post of the chief minister if Shahbaz were to resign.
A senior Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Amir Fareed said that the prime minister had offered former president Asif Ali Zardari to become the president of Pakistan. The claim could not be verified by PPP officials.
