Political, military leadership to set up task force to monitor NAP’s progress

Task force will comprises on senior representatives of all concerned departments, agencies of federal govt and provinces

ISLAMABAD: The political and military leadership of the country have decided to establish a high-level task force to monitor the progress on implementation of National Action Plan (NAP).

The decision was taken at a high-powered meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, and Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua, DG ISI Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar and other senior officials.

The Task Force will be comprised on senior representatives of all concerned departments and agencies of the federal government and the provinces. The meeting took a strategic review of regional and internal security situation and in that context also focused on the latest trends of activities of hostile intelligence agencies to destabilise Pakistan. The participants agreed to scale up the existing efforts to neutralize hostile elements through a coordinated and focused effort.

The meeting reaffirmed the national resolve to eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country and restoration of complete peace and tranquility would remain the top priority of the Government and all the state institutions.

It reviewed various aspects of implementation on National Action Plan (NAP). The meeting stressed that intelligence agencies perform a vital role in guaranteeing national security and safeguarding national interest for which they will be provided all necessary resources and support.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed that no effort be spared to ensure complete and effective implementation of the plan. He stressed the need to take result oriented and time bound action, with a view to completely eliminate and eradicate the menace of terrorism from the soil of Pakistan.

Later on PM Nawaz while addressing in the National Assembly strongly condemned the terrorist incident in Quetta. He said such incidents cannot deter the resolve of the nation in the fight against terrorism. He said “we will move forward with full strength and completely eliminate terrorism from the country” adding that the same ideology targeted Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, Ismaili community of Safoora Ghoth, Hazara community in Balochistan, a church and Army Public School Peshawar in Peshawar, and prominent people of the country.
