Qadri asks Gen. Raheel to ensure justice for Model Town victims

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehrik chief Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri called on Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to ensure justice for the victims of the Model Town incident.

According to details, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri held a press conference in Lahore in which he assailed the federal government. Qadri called on Pakistan army to conduct a combing operation in Punjab to rid the province of terrorists and militants. Qadri said that corruption was also one of the main causes of terrorism.

"Terrorism is being sponsored by corruption money," he said.

The PAT chief said that there would be no compromise on the issue of holding those responsible for the Model Town incident in Lahore two years ago.

"General Raheel Sharif should ensure justice for the Model Town tragedy," said Tahir-ul-Qadri.

On June 17, 2014, violent clashes erupted between Pakistan Awami Tehreek supporters and Punjab police after the anti-encroachment squad decided to remove barriers from the offices of Minhaj-ul-Quran and the residence of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri. More than 10 people died in the clashes that took place as close to a hundred people were injured.
