MIRPUR: In Azad Jammu Kashmir on Monday, people observed India’s Independence Day as black day as a protest against the illegal occupation of a large part of the state by India.

To register their deep concern over the ruthless use of force against the innocent people of occupied Kashmir – who are struggling for their right to self-determination as promised by the United Nation – protested.

The Indian Independence Day was marked with protest rallies in all small and major towns. Addressing these rallies speaker vehemently condemned the frequent unprovoked firing by the Indian troops on the line of control and the working boundary by the Indian army targeting civilian population at forward areas besides the positions of the front-line Pakistani troops.

People from diverse segments of the civil society including social, political and other public representative organisation attended the rallies held in Muzaffarabad as well as all other nine district headquarters of Mirpur, Kotli, Bagh, Rawalakot, Bhimbher, Neelam valley, Hattiyan, Haveili and Sudhanoti.

Speakers strongly condemned the on-going massacre of innocent Kashmiris in and underlined that over 75 have been martyred and over 200 injured during the last 27 days – for raising their voices for liberation from Indians.

Speakers called upon the international community including the major powers to take immediate notice of such hostile and aggressive designs of India in the region. They called upon United Nations and the world community to ensure their practical role for getting Kashmir dispute resolved through peaceful means without further loss of time to protect South Asia from any destruction.

They also urged upon the international community to take immediate notice of the repeated violations of the line of control and the working boundary by the Indian troops and ensure the safety of the region from impending threats through the early peaceful settlement of the Kashmir conflict in line with the wishes of the people of Jammu Kashmir.

In Muzaffarabad, people from all walks of life including social and political workers activists, students and private and public sector employees associations merged into big public rally and marched to the local headquarters of United Nations with a memorandum requesting and reminding them of their promises made to Kashmiris besides urging the world body for ensuring early peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue.

– ‘The Memorandum’ –

The memorandum called upon UN to take immediate notice of the worst kind of state terrorism in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

It reminded the world forum that India being an aggressor in Kashmir, had no legal, moral and ethical right to celebrate her Independence, as she was occupying a large part of the state – against the will of people since 1947 – ignoring the partition plan of subcontinent and denying the UN Security Council’s resolutions.

The Kashmiris have requested UN – time and again – that the continuous flouting attitude of India against the authority of UN Security Council, (as determined in its resolutions for 13th August 1948 and 5th January 1949) to decide the future of Kashmir through a plebiscite, it added.

The memorandum said that Kashmir dispute had been a cause of confrontation between India and Pakistan – who fought three wars on this account. Indian forces killed thousands of children, women and other innocent people including journalists, business men.

It demanded UN and International community to pressurize India to stop such killing immediately. It held that the people of Jammu and Kashmir through an indigenous armed struggle had made known to the world that they wanted freedom from Indian yoke and India through its ruthless measures has failed to crush their struggle.
