ECP to approach apex court against LHC’s verdict

By: Online

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to challenge the verdict of Lahore High Court (LHC) in the Supreme Court regarding elections of reserved seats in Local Bodies in Punjab.

According to sources, the ECP had released the schedule of elections on reserved seats on August 8 for Local Bodies in the second phase of local government’s elections. The political parties had filed a writ petition in (LHC) and prayed the court for the restoration of old Local Bodies law owing to lack of reserved seats in these institutions.

The LHC after hearing the arguments of both parties declared the ECP’s verdict null and void and ordered the ECP to release new schedule for the elections on reserved seats of Local Bodies.
