Dar orders authorities to probe into urea scam

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar ordered an inquiry into the urea scam on Friday.
As per the media reports, the decision was taken in a meeting of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) – which the minister was chairing – as the ECC had decided on January 16, 2014 to equalise the prices of imported urea with the price of locally purchased urea.
It was implemented through the National Fertiliser Company. However – during the Rabi season – the urea prices fell in the local market due to decrease in its prices at the international level and led to the fall in prices of rice, wheat and sugarcane also fell.
