MQM unit, sector workers involved in August 22 attack: DG Rangers

KARACHI: The Director General (DG) Sindh Rangers, Major General Bilal Akbar has said that attack on media houses on August 22 was a pre-planned act.

Talking to media after visiting Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre here Monday, DG Bilal Akbar said, “August 22 attack was a pre-planned act and MQM Labour Division facilitated it.”

Muttahida Qaumi Movement labour division activists, working in two banks near Karachi Press Club, gathered boys from different areas for the attack, he said and added that they also arranged lunch for them, who launched attack after anti-state speech of MQM founder.

Six accused including bank official Javed have been apprehended while another bank worker belonging to the party’s Labour Division Buland Khan is on the run.

“We are searching for him,” said DG Rangers.

The escaped suspect Buland Khan was identified by under custody suspects, said Bilal Akbar, adding that arrested suspects identified people involved in the attack.

He said the arrested six suspects are being handed over to police.
