Court issues notices to Nawaz, ministers over anti-SC remarks

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and 11 Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ministers over contempt of court on Tuesday.

Advocate Azhar Siddiq filed a petition against Nawaz for uttering remarks against judiciary during his speeches in PML-N’s Grand Trunk (GT) Road rally last week.

The petition demanded ban of PML-N chief’s speeches and addresses over his remarks that Supreme Court’s (SC) decision of ousting him on July 28 was a conspiracy against him.

Nawaz said during a speech in his rally that the SC decision was an insult to public mandate and that his ousting is a conspiracy whose planners he will later reveal.

“I was voted in prime minister by 200 million people while five honorable judges sent me packing. The Supreme Court’s verdict was an insult to their vote. It had lowered Pakistan’s standing in the international community.” He had said.

The petitioner also said that he had reached Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) pertaining the issue but his case was not heard leading him to file the petition in court.
