Nawaz better than ‘Meray Aziz Hum Watno!’: Zardari
* Former president says democracy at its worst is better than martial law at its best *PPP will not let the boat of democracy capsize

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari said on Sunday that he deems Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif better than “Meray Aziz Hum Watno”, a reference to marital law.

He said that his party has rendered more sacrifices than any other political party for the restoration of democracy in the country and it will not let boat of democracy to capsize. Addressing a convention in connection with the 47th Foundation Day of PPP here on Sunday, Asif Zardari said that there were many “misdirected children” in today’s politics of the country and that his party will not buy the “four-month-long TV drama”. “We are not in a hurry, so the captain may keep on bowling.”

Asif Zardari said if democracy was derailed, it would pave the way for someone to repeat the words “Meray Aziz Hum Watno”. The PPP co-chairman said there was a wide difference between the politics of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and the PPP. The PTI chief, he said, represents a narrow mindset “while our view captures a forward-looking perspective”. He said Imran Khan’s politics seem to be directed by the “finger of the umpire. This is not how politics is done.”

“Nawaz Sharif’s government is better than my dear countrymen (martial law),” Zardari said. He said that his party would not be part of efforts to derail democracy, adding that he cannot stop his workers from chanting slogans. “We will not become a part of ongoing conspiracy being hatched in Islamabad,” the PPP leader said wile referring to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf sit-in in the federal capital. Criticising the PTI, the former president said that the PPP would show its play after Imran Khan’s “bowling”.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari said that his party won’t let democracy’s ship sink because of ‘conspiracy dramas’, adding that it is up to them to decide when government stays and leaves. Addressing on the occasion of 47th Foundation Day of PPP, Zardari said that the worst form of democracy is better than the best form of martial law. He said his party will neither overthrow government nor will it allow democracy’s ship sink over “4 months of conspiracy dramas”.

Former president said if the ‘go Nawaz go’ chant appeals PPP workers then he won’t stop them but, he said, it should be on their pitch instead of anyone else’s. He said they are not in a hurry at this time and that they should let Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan bowl so that the “pitch is corrected”. He said the government will stand as long as he wants it to stand and will let is collapse when he wants it to. He said allowing others to play will help strengthen democracy. Zardari said that the one who is in Islamabad believes in “short politics”, adding that today’s politics has a lot of ‘misguided kids’. He said he now doubts on even cricket career of those who talk about ‘third umpires’
