New training regime to boost firing efficiency of soldiers: Gen Sharif

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, Wednesday said a new training regime has been introduced in the Army to enhance the firing efficiency of individual soldiers and units.

ISPR said, addressing the concluding ceremony of Pakistan Army Annual Firing Competition at Army Firing Range near Jhelum, the COAS expressed his complete satisfaction on the standard of shooting skills achieved by the individual officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army.

“Highest standard of training and professionalism must remain our hallmark to accomplish the assigned mission,” the Army Chief emphasized.

A number of new and innovative steps have been taken to realize the concept. In this regard, an Army Marksmanship Unit has also been established, which is a quantum leap towards improvement of firing standards of soldiers of Pakistan Army.

Yet another step is conduct of firing competitions within the Army on new format using latest techniques in consonance with constantly changing combat environment. Similarly, a number of improvements in weapons and ammunition have also been introduced.

Appreciating the excellent standard of marksmanship of participating firers from all over the army, COAS said that training is a vital part of every soldier's professional development.

Earlier, the COAS witnessed the concluding session of two weeks long competition in which participating troops exhibited their skills in rifle and light machinegun fire.

Later, the Army Chief gave away trophies and medals to the winner team and individual firers. Naib Subedar Sana Ullah and Havildar Amir Nawaz secured first positions in rifle G-3 and light machine gun matches respectively. 2 Corps Multan claimed the overall trophy for the Year 2014.
