Gen Sharif for maintaining highest standards of professionalism
Army chief says new training regime has been introduced in army to enhance firing efficiency of individuals, units

RAWALPINDI - Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has said that highest standard of training and professionalism must remain the hallmark of the army to accomplish the missions assigned to them.

He was speaking at Pakistan Army’s annual firing competition which concluded at army’s firing range near Jhelum on Wednesday. General Sharif witnessed the concluding session of the two-week long competition in which participating troops exhibited their skills in rifle and light machinegun fire. While appreciating the excellent standard of marksmanship of participating firers from all over the army, the army chief said that training is a vital part of every soldier’s professional development. He expressed his satisfaction on the standard of shooting skills achieved by the individual officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army.

He said that a new training regime has been introduced in the army to enhance the firing efficiency of individuals and units. A number of new and innovative steps were taken to realise the concept. In this regard, an Army Marksmanship Unit has also been established, which is a quantum leap towards improvement of firing standards of soldiers of Pakistan Army. Yet another step is conduct of firing competitions within the army on new format using latest techniques in consonance with constantly changing combat environment. Similarly, a number of improvements in weapons and ammunition have also been introduced.

General Sharif also gave away the trophies and medals to the winner team and individual firers. Naib Subedar Sana Ullah and Havildar Amir Nawaz secured first positions in rifle G-3 and light machine gun matches respectively. 2 Corps Multan claimed the overall trophy for the Year 2014.
