Sharjeel Memon rebuffs allegations leveled by MQM

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon on Wednesday rejected the allegations leveled by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Wasim Akhtar, saying people are being hired on the basis of merit in all the provincial departments including police.

Responding to a statement of MQM leader Wasim Akhtar, Sharjeel Memon claimed there was no room for nepotism or politics in connection with recruitment of staff in the provincial departments, terming the allegations against Chief Minister and Sindh government as fabricated and baseless.

He said it was actually the era of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s regime when the merit was shredded to pieces and it was the same period during which the culture of favoritism and politics was promoted.

Defending Qaim Ali Shah as the Chief Minister of Sindh, he claimed that the provincial chief executive was satisfactorily running the provincial affairs.

Wasim Akhtar's statement:

Earlier, Muttahid Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Wasim Akhtar said bad governance in Sindh has crossed all limits and termed the emphasize on merit by the provincial Chief Minister a façade.

He alleged that appointments were being made without merit, regretting ‘thieves and robbers’ were being inducted in police department.

“All the People’s Party representatives were recruiting their own people,” he maintained, adding although seventy-six candidates from Hyderabad and Karachi had qualified their tests, yet they were not offered jobs.
