IHC orders to halt discontinuation of gas supply

INP

ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered to halt the suspension of gas supply to the compressed natural gas (CNG) stations. The court has also asked the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to submit their response till December 9.

Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition submitted by more than 300 CNG station owners. Lawyer of the petitioners Makhdoom Ali Khan maintained that the government sidelined CNG sector in its priority list whereas changes in the priority list was a violation of court’s orders.

"Suspension of gas to the CNG sector is a violation of the human rights," he added. The court issued notices to the SNGPL and the Petroleum Ministry and ordered the ministry officials to shun the stoppage of gas supply.
