NA Speaker meets Kuwaiti PM, Majlis speaker
Kuwait shows interest in import of manpower, agriculture & textile products

ISLAMABAD - National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met Majlisal-Umma (National Assembly) Speaker Sheikh Marzouk Ali Al-Ghanim in Kuwait City today. Members of the Pakistani Parliamentary delegation were also present on the occasion.

Both the speakers discussed issues of mutual interest and ways and means to further reinvigorate bilateral relations between Pakistani and Kuwaiti legislatures. Latest developments on regional and international parliamentary forums also came under discussion. Expressing his condolences on the Peshawar tragedy, the Kuwaiti speaker said that barbaric acts of terrorism in Peshawar have deeply saddened people and government of Kuwait and they stand by their Pakistani brethren on this critical juncture.

He said that Kuwait attaches immense importance to its relations with Pakistan and wants further strengthen them through active parliamentary and people-to-people contacts. Ayaz, thanking his counterpart for his thoughtfulness said that the acts of terrorism were aimed to destabilise the democratic process and bringing the development process to a halt, however the nation is united to foil the evil designs of the terrorists. The speaker further said that political forces were united and convinced for continuity of the democratic process to fortify the foundations of democracy in Pakistan.

The speaker said that Pakistan considers Kuwait a dear brother and wants exceptional relations with it. He suggested for enhancing parliamentary interaction between both the parliaments for strengthening of existing bilateral relations and sharing of experiences and practices. He invited Kuwaiti speaker to visit Pakistan along with a delegation. He also informed the Kuwaiti speaker about the establishment of Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services in Islamabad and offered for utilisation of services for capacity building of Kuwaiti parliamentary Staff.

Later, Ayaz called on Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in PM’s Office today. Both the leaders discussed issues of mutual interests and means to strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Kuwait. Referring to Kuwait’s relations with Pakistan, Sheikh Jaber said that his country attaches enormous importance to its relations with Pakistan and wants to strengthen them through enhancing cooperation in diverse fields. He said that Kuwait was interested in import of manpower, agricultural and textile products. He praised Pakistani expatriates working in Kuwait for contributions in Kuwaiti economy.
