President warns militants to surrender or face consequences

ISLAMABAD – President Mamnoon Hussain on Fridays said that there was no place for militants in Pakistan and warned them to surrender or otherwise face the consequences.

Addressing the 48th convocation of College of Physicians and Surgeons here, he said that the Peshawar tragedy had cast a deep shadow of grief over the nation; however it was determined to eliminate terrorism. He said that no incident of terror could deter the nation's resolve to fight militancy and added that Pakistan would ultimately become a land of peace.

The president said thatr hearts bleed with thoughts of the victim children; however the nation had not lost hope and was determined to rid Pakistan of terrorism. He expressed sympathies with the victims’ families and said the whole nation stood with them in the hour of grief. He also expressed solidarity with the families of security forces who sacrificed their lives in fighting the war against terrorism.

Mamnoon said that the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan was a well-reputed organisation of international standards. He lauded that the college had introduced medicine at post-graduate level at local and international levels which was exemplary for other educational institutions. He said success of any organisation rests with continuous hardwork and economic self-reliance.

The president appreciated that the syllabus of the College of physicians was based on modern lines and its fellows were contributing positively to meet health needs of the people. He urged the fellows of college of the physicians to strengthen relations with renowned international organisations so as to benefit from their experiences.

Mamnoon stressed for making improvements in the health sector and pointed that the old system was not addressing the medical challenges in remote areas including Thar. He called for devising a proper system for permanent deputation of medical experts to far-flung areas, which he said would help overcome the health-related issues.

The president expressed satisfaction that College of Physicians and Surgeons had introduced a two-year diploma on life-threatening diseases. He said providing good medical treatment to the patients would be a national service and directed all the federal and the provincial departments to facilitate the College of Physicians and Surgeons in its endeavours. College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan President Professor Zafrullah Chaudhry highlighted the salient features of the organisation.
