Asif Zardari files defamation case against Hashwani Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari has filed a defamation case in Sindh High Court (SHC) against Hashoo Group Chairman Sadaruddin Hashwani for leveling baseless allegations as well as writing falsehood against him in his book “The Truth Always Prevails”, which is tantamount to damaging his reputation. Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Senators Farooq H Naik, Farhatullah Babr and former information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira at a press conference termed Hashwani’s book a planned conspiracy against PPP and his leadership and said that PPP took the legal course for justice. Senator Farooq H Naek, who is also the lawyer of Asif Ali Zardari, said that former president had served a legal notice to Sadrudin Hashwani for his book “The Truth Always Prevails” claiming that its was aimed at tarnishing his image and that of PPP but Hashwani did not make reply to it. Naek said that Asif Ali Zardari has filed a defamation case demanding Rs2 billion against Sadrudin Hashwani in Sindh High Court and the case was fix for hearing on February 6. Referring to excerpts that Asif Zardari wanted to possess Hashwani’s land, he said that the book was published in India and the PPP has also issued a defamation notice to the Indian publisher. Naek said that Hashwani has to reply over the allegations he has levelled against Asif Ali Zarrari and added that the former president has already faced fake cases and been tortured during his illegal custody. “Asif Ali Zardari was cleared of all cases. We want justice and we will vigorously follow the case to expose the conspiracy against the PPP,” he said. The opposition leader said that many fake cases were filed against the PPP leadership but they always succeeded before the nation. He said that it was a pre-planned conspiracy against the PPP and its leadership. Qamar Zman Kaira said that PPP has faced many cases and allegations by different public institutions and establishment in past but time, history and public proved the PPP blameless. Farhatullha Babar said that it is a test case and PPP leadership will vindicate its position.
