Protesting doctors have withdrawn strike call, claims CM Sindh

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali shah on Wednesday claimed that the doctors, who have been protesting against targeted killing of their fraternity, have withdrawn their call for a strike following assurances given to them by the government. A spokesman for the CM said that Shah, while chairing a meeting with leaders of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), assured that doctors would be given arms licenses upon consultations with the law enforcement agencies. He said an approval would also be sought form the provincial cabinet for financial assistance of the slain doctors’ families besides better security arrangements for the fraternity in the future. According to the spokesman, protesting doctors withdrew their strike call following the assurances. However, the doctors said that the strike call has not been withdrawn and they would announce their future course of action after reviewing the government’s action in this regard.
