MQM leaders dismiss ‘fictitious’ JIT report on Baldia factory fire

KARACHI: Following rejection of a report by a Joint Investigation team on Badia Town factory fire by Altaf Hussain, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders on Sunday also dismissed the report, terming it ‘factious’ and ‘biased’. Speaking at a press conference held at the MQM headquarters Nine-Zero, Haider Abbas Rizvi said the JIT report was not based on facts but was compiled on rumours. He termed it a pack of lies. “It is written in the report that I heard from this person and that person,” he claimed. Rizvi, who was flanked by Dr Farooq Sattar, Faisal Sabzwari, Dr Khalid Mqbool Siddiqui and Rauf Siddiqui, said the judicial commission comprised of Justice (retd) Qurban Alvi prepared a fake probe report over the Baldia Town tragedy. He said MQM condemns what he termed a sham conspiracy against the party, adding that this was not the first time that a fake JIT formed against MQM chief Altaf Hussain and the workers. Earlier, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddqui said that a heinous conspiracy was being hatched against the party and a media trial of MQM was being carried on the basis of just one incident. Demanding death sentences for the perpetrators of the factory inferno which engulfed the lives of over 250 people in Karachi in 2012, MQM chief Husssain had earlier said that another tragedy might happen if the people involved in the Baldia factory incident were not brought to book. “It is illegal, immoral and against Islam to blame a political party for such an incident,” he said addressing party workers by telephone. Besides calling for re-investigation through Scotland Yard or a UN probe team, the MQM supremo asked what happened to findings of General Ziaul Haq’s plane crash, Ojhri camp incident and murder of Benazir Bhutto.
