Sirajul Haq urges immediate local bodies elections

* Says internal as well as foreign policies of the government are a complete failure

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq has called for immediate local bodies elections for the solution of the problems of the people at grass root level. He was addressing a news conference at Anjum Complex Karachi on Saturday after presiding over a meeting of the Sindh JI Shoora. The JI chief said that the internal as well as foreign policies of the government were a complete failure and the government did not have any foreign policy or even a foreign minister. Referring to the JIT report on the Baldia Town Karachi tragedy, Sirajul Haq said that this was a trial of the government and it should proceed against the political party behind the massacre of around three hundred factory workers and provide justice to the affected families. He said that a terrorist was a terrorist no matter he belonged to any party, sect or group. He posed a question as to why the JIT report had been kept secret for such a long time. The JI chief said that target killing had been going on in Karachi for the last three decades. He said that the mystery of Dr Khalid Soomro’s murder had not been solved as yet. He said that an enquiry commission to probe into the Shikarpur tragedy had not been formed as yet which was the worst example of the government’s incompetence. Sirajul Haq said that the JIT report was out and the mention of the MQM posed a challenge for the government. He said the prime minister should initiate legal action against the political party involved in the tragedy so that the affected families could get justice. He said that if the government was sincere in its drive against terrorism, it should immediately take the Baldia Town factory fire report as a test case and try to recover its fast losing image. The JI chief deplored that the government had not set up a judicial commission to look into the rigging allegations despite its repeated promises. He said that all political issues should be solved through dialogue. He said that a group of self-seekers was holding the entire system and the nation as hostage because of its wealth and power. He said that the oppressed masses were in search of a messiah. Sirajul Haq said that the US, the international preacher of peace and democracy, had always sided with the dictators and kings and set worst examples of terrorism through the massacre of innocent human beings. The bloodshed going on in Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan was a proof, he added. JI deputy chief Asadullah Bhutto, Sindh JI chief Merajul Huda Siddiqui and Karachi JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rahman were also present on the occasion. Later, while addressing an Ulema conference at Boner, Sirajul Haq said that the country was facing threats not from the madaris, the Ulema or the poor masses, it was facing threats because of its incompetent and corrupt rulers. He said Pakistan had fallen into the grip of terrorism because of the oppressive system prevailing in the country. However, he said that an Islamic revolution was the destiny of the country and it was not far off. He urged the Ulema to pull the nation out of the sectarian and factional division for forging a complete national unity. He said that after coming to power, the JI would pay salaries to the Ulema out of the public exchequer like the armed forces and the police.
