ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Ahsan Iqbal Monday said that China Pakistan corridor is a fate changer for Pakistan and region. This he said in a meeting with Chinese ambassador, Sun Weidong to Islamabad in his office. He said all provinces will benefit from the infrastructure and energy sector projects being started under CPEC. Gawadar will emerge as smart port city and bring tremendous opportunities to Balochistan. He said that there is no route change in corridor project, it is a baseless propaganda. “CPEC is national project to bring benefit to every region”, he said. The Minister said that on our side the relevant departments have completed the homework and ready to sign Framework agreement to start the process. “We should be expecting to make ground-breaking of the identified major energy and infrastructure projects by March”, the Minister added. Federal secretary for Planning Commission, Hassan Nawaz Tarar pointed out that some of the projects are on fast track and can be completed within the timeline if the process is completed on urgent basis. About the coal based energy projects, Ahsan Iqbal clarified that coal remains the primary source of energy. “LNG is being sought as short-term and mid-term solution as it offers easy transportation compared to coal,” he said. He categorically said, “LNG will not replace coal rather it will supplement it.”
