Fatemi allays EU’s concern on human rights in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi has said that the constitution of Pakistan fully guarantees the fundamental rights of all its citizens irrespective of religion, caste or creed and the reasons for lifting the moratorium on death penalty is to eliminate the menace of terrorism. He was talking to Netherland’s Ambassador for Human Rights Kees Van Baar who called on Syed Tariq Fatemi, here on Wednesday. He allayed EU’s concerns on human rights, and briefed the visiting dignitary on Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and the situation of human rights in Pakistan. While expressing Pakistan’s satisfaction and its cordial relations with the Netherlands, the SAPM called for strengthening these ties further, especially in the economic and trade sectors. Kees Van Baar appreciated Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and extremism and the various steps being taken by the government to eradicate this menace. He also reiterated the desire of the Dutch government to enhance bilateral relations with Pakistan. Both agreed that promotion of peace and interfaith harmony were essential for development and economic stability.
