ECP rejects Imran’s demand seeking suspension of NA Speaker
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s demand seeking suspension of National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. The PTI chief had recently met the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Raza Ahmad Khan and sought the suspension till the Election Tribunal (ET) gave its decision on the alleged rigging in NA-122. The ECP responded today by saying that it does not have the power to take such an action and only the ET can do that. On February 7, Sadiq spoke to the media after appearing at the hearing of the NA-122 case in the election tribunal and said that he had so far beared with 128 days of media trials and attacks hurled on him by Khan but still nothing had been proven so who does he ask for justice. He further said that the case was sub judice and neither him nor Khan were the judges. He added that the judgment would be on the basis of justice and not whims. He also said that he would hopefully stay on as the National Assembly Speaker till the full completion of his term in 2018, adding that he thanked his voters, supporters, family and friends who voted for him for the third time from NA-122.
