India does not qualify for UNSC membership, Nawaz tells Obama

ISLAMABAD: In a telephonic conversation with US President Barack Obama on Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif conveyed Pakistan's concerns over India's bid to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. India does not qualify for permanent membership of United Nations's Security Council at any cost, the PM House spokesman quoted the prime minister as telling Obama. In the conversation which lasted over 30 minutes, Sharif informed Obama of India's continued violations of the United Nation's resolution on Kashmir. The prime minister also expressed Pakistan's desire to become a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). The PM House spokesperson said Obama welcomed Pakistan's positive relationship with Afghanistan, while also informing Sharif of details regarding his recent visit to New Delhi. The US president also appreciated Pakistan's decision to fight terrorism through military operation Zarb-e-Azb.
