President Mamnoon meets ambassador of Turkmenistan

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday said that land and air connectivity between Pakistan and the Central Asian Republics (CARs) was a need of the hour as it would boost economic cooperation with Turkmenistan and other countries of the region. He was talking to Ambassador of Turkmenistan, Atadjan Movlamov, who called on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. The ambassador conveyed to President Mamnoon the invitation of the president of Turkmenistan to attend the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the ‘Declaration of Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality’ to be held in December this year at Ashgabat, a press statement issued from the president’s office said. The president said Pakistan considers Turkmenistan an important regional player due to its strategic location and energy resources, adding that Turkmenistan can help Pakistan in meeting its energy requirements while Pakistan can provide land and sea trade corridor to Turkmenistan. He encouraged the idea of regular people-to-people exchanges to establish contacts and enhance cultural cooperation between the two countries. Mamnoon emphasised on the need to explore new avenues of economic and commercial cooperation and advised that trade facilitation bodies and chambers of commerce and industry of both the countries be enabled to create linkages and synergies in agriculture, textile, food processing and other sectors of mutual interest. He stated that Pakistan attaches high priority to timely completion of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and also conveyed his good wishes for the Turkmen leadership. Ambassador Movlamov apprised that both Pakistan and Turkmenistan shared mutual vision of economic cooperation and Turkmenistan was interested in benefiting from Pakistan’s experience especially in the textile sector.
