NAB Balochistan recovers Rs 127.68 million during 2014

* Chairman says the bureau has played a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB

ISLAMABAD: Balochistan Bureau of The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recovered Rs127.68 million through voluntary return (VR) and plea bargain (PB) while disposed of 857 complaints received during the last year. NAB Chairman Major (r) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on Friday was briefed about the performance of the bureau during his annual inspection visit by the Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT) deputed to conduct the annual inspection. According to a release, the inspection was carried out from February 11 to February 13, 2015 in order to review and evaluate the performance of NAB Balochistan Bureau on the basis of a quantified grading system. In 2014, NAB Balochistan disposed of 295 complaint verifications (CVs), completed 70 of the total 177 authorised inquires and finished 26 out of 47 authorised investigations. During last year NAB Balochistan recovered 127.68 million through voluntary return and plea bargain and arrested 40 accused persons. NAB Balochistan has recovered Rs1,329.289 million since its inception. The NAB Chairman said NAB is Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organisation assigned with the responsibility of elimination of corruption through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement. He said that NAB Balochistan is one of the important regional bureaus of NAB. It had played, he said, a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB. The chairman appreciated the performance of NAB Balochistan Bureau and directed all ranks of officers of NAB Balochistan to work more vigilantly and diligently in order to curb corruption and fraudulent practices from the country. There is always room for improvements; however good work and commitment of the Bureau is appreciable, he added. Senior Member (CI&MT) along with his team conducted Annual Inspection of NAB Balochistan Bureau for 2014. He gave briefing to the NAB chairman about the inspection done and highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the bureau. He said that on the directions of the chairman, a quantified grading system has been devised. Under this grading system, he said, performance of NAB’s regional bureaus is being evaluated with a given criteria. The NAB chairman said that (CI&MT) inspection team has done a good work. He said performance of all wings of NAB Balochistan under the supervision of NAB Balochistan DG was satisfactory. NAB operates under the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999 which is extended to all of Pakistan, including FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan. NAB has its headquarter at Islamabad while it has seven regional bureaus located at Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Sukkur, Multan and Rawalpindi.
