Senate elections: Nominations of 12 candidates approved

ISLAMABAD: On the first day of scrutiny of nomination papers for the Senate elections on Thursday, papers for 12 candidates were approved while two were rejected. Meanwhile, objections were raised on the papers of the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's (PML-N) Raja Zafarul Haq, Pervez Rashid, Saud Majeed, Abdul Qayyum and Sajid Mir. The office of the Punjab Election Commission was the centre of a lot of hustle and bustle as the process for the scrutiny of nomination papers began today. The candidates whose nomination papers were approved included PML-N's Mushahidullah Khan, Chaudhary Tanveer, Ghous Mohammad Niazi, Nihal Hashmi, Khawaja Mehmood Ahmed, Saleem Zia, Malik Nosheer, Najma Hameed, Kiran Dar, Ayesha Raza Farooq. Papers for the Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) Nadeem Afzal Chan and Sarwat Malik were also approved. Nomination papers for independent candidates Malik Abdul Rehman and Sarfaraz Qureshi were rejected, while objections were raised on papers of the PML-N's Raja Zafarul Haq, Pervez Rashid, Saud Majeed, Abdul Qayyum and Sajid Mir.
