Rashid urges Imran to play role to end 'horse-trading'

ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Wednesday urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan to play his role in ending 'horse-trading' in the upcoming Senate elections. Speaking to reporters here today, Rashid said that the highest number of complaints of 'horse-trading' comes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which is governed by the PTI. Rashid urged the PTI to end its boycott of Parliament and join hands with the government to end 'horse-trading'. “Imran Khan should come to Parliament and say that they will vote to support this amendment to stop horse-trading. He will have to put his weight behind this,” he said. Rashid said that the government was in contact with all political parties, and that leaders of all major parties had agreed in principle to the amendment. Although some parties had reservations over the mechanism of voting in the Senate polls, Rashid said that the government has devised a mechanism which would remove these reservations. The government's proposed mechanism will give smaller provinces that same rights as guaranteed in the 1973 constitution, he said. Rashid said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has been tasked by the government to formally contact the PTI and convey the government's request for support in the proposed amendment. “I hope Imran Khan will play his role. Even if the PTI stick to their principle stand on formation of judicial commission, PTI should still play their part in supporting this amendment,” he said.
