Will continue to engage with Pakistan: India

NEW DELHI: India and Pakistan are in touch on a daily basis on investigations into the Pathankot air base attack and will continue to remain engaged, the Indian government said on Wednesday.

“Since the Pathankot attack, we have been in touch with Pakistan. We have been in touch at my level and the NSA [national security advisor] level and will continue to do so because only by remaining in touch, we can expect them to progress on issues of terror on the basis of information which we have provided to them,” Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said in response to a question at a counterterrorism conference in Jaipur. He was asked, “Is the Indian government now willing to see talks and terror go together?”

In a related development, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh asserted that the nation would stand by Pakistan if it takes action against terrorists. “Our government will stand by Pakistan if it takes decisive action against terrorists and their organisations. For India, Mumbai and Pathankot terror attacks have signified a tectonic shift,” Singh said at the counterterrorism conference in Jaipur. “Most of the terror attacks emanate from Pakistan. Pakistan has to show some sincerity and take action against terrorists operating from its soil,” he alleged. He said that advance intelligence input on Pathankot helped the security agencies in neutralising the possible impact of the terror attack.
