SC directs provinces to legislate on sheesha centres

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday directed all the four provinces for legislation over ban on sheesha smoking centres. A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case over action against sheesha smoking centres. The counsel for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa told the court that the provincial government had taken action against sheesha smoking centres and closed two centres in Peshawar and Abbotabad. He said that FIRs were also registered against 170 sheesha smoking centres in the provinces. The provincial government also tabled a bill in the provincial assembly to ban sheesha smoking centres, he added. The counsel for Sindh government submitted a report before the bench and stated that the provincial government had arrested six persons for running sheesha smoking centres. Later, the court directed the provinces to hold legislation and adjourned the hearing for two months.
