Former MQM leader Shahzad presented in ATC


KARACHI: Former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) politician Saleem Shahzad was brought before the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday in regards to former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain's case.

Speaking to media, he expressed his faith in the courts after he was handed over to an investigation officer.

Investigation officials said that 23 cases had been registered against the former leader of the MQM who was arrested at the airport on Monday after he ended his self-imposed exile. Three of the cases that have been registered against him were done so in Joharabad, while another three cases were registered in various city police stations. Furthermore, he has been acquitted in four cases, while the other 14 cases were closed in accordance with the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

The officials further said that they were trying to reopen the cases against Shahzad, however they were facing difficulties as the case files had gone missing.

The politician’s family also presented themselves in court along with his medical reports. They pleaded for his release, stating that Shahzad was seeking treatment for cancer.
