Pakistan notes importance of ties with Sri Lanka

RAWALPINDI: Defence Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain has said Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Sri Lanka and the ties have grown to the great extent over the last six decades.

He said this during a meeting with Vice Admiral R C Wijegunaratne, Commander Sri Lankan Navy. The minister mentioned that there is a considerable potential for cooperation between the two countries. Pakistan has always proposed futuristic cooperation to Sri Lanka. The two countries could also cooperate in counter terrorism in a comprehensive manner, including sharing of experience and working together to eliminate this menace, he added.

The minister expressed that it is Pakistan’s ardent desire to promote peace and cooperation in South Asia. For that Pakistan attaches great importance to SAARC and wishes to see SAARC as a vibrant regional organisation. Pakistan desires Sri Lanka and other countries of the region to make it an effective organisation in order to promote good relations between the countries of the region, so that people may benefit from the fruits of the regional cooperation.
