By: Shabbir siham

ISLAMABAD: The International Criminal Police Organisation commonly known as the Interpol has refused to issue red warrants for Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) chief Altaf Hussain.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had sent a letter to the Interpol requesting it to issue red warrants for the MQM-L chief, but it had turned down the request made by the FIA.

In its reply on Friday, the Interpol stated that the case was of a political nature and sought explanation from the FIA until March 13.

It may be mentioned here that MQM-London leader is wanted to law enforcement agencies of Pakistan in different cases, including charges of high treason, terrorism and provocation to violence.

The FIA had asked the Ministry of Interior to issue red warrants for the MQM-London chief, which granted permission to write a letter to the Interpol seeking red warrants for Altaf Hussain.

The approval for the red warrant was issued following the orders of an anti-terrorism court (ATC), which is hearing three identical cases against Altaf Hussain pertaining to his August 22 speech.
