Security put on high alert in Lahore

LAHORE: In the wake of recent spate of terrorism across the country, security across the provincial capital has been put on high alert.

A number of directions have been issued to beef up the security in a circular forwarded to the regional and district police officers on Friday.

In this connection, Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera has directed police officers to beef up security at mosques, imambargahs, shrines and other important places. “Movement of suspicious persons should strictly be monitored and patrolling around sensitive instalments should be made more effective,” he said.

The top cop added that strict monitoring at the entry and exit points of the province should be ensured and a vigilant eye should be kept on suspicious persons. “No laxity will be tolerated in this regard.”

He directed police force to take action against those who failed to prove their identity. Meanwhile, directives have also been issued to increase security around shopping malls, parks, recreational places and educational institutes.
