Iftikhar Chaudhry files Rs 20 bln defamation lawsuit against Imran

ISLAMABAD - Former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry on Tuesday filed Rs 20 billion defamation sue against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

Imran had accused that former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was involved in rigging in 2013 general election. Chaudhry’s legal team finalised the draft of defamation suit which was filed in the court of district and session judge in Islamabad. Advocate Taufiq Asif, Advocate Sheikh Ahsanuddin, Advocate Nayab Gardezi are members of the legal team. The defamation notice has been submitted against Imran for maligning the top judiciary of Pakistan and bringing the former judge to disrepute. The court has issued a notice to Imran and summoned him on January 29 for submitting his reply.

Last year, Chaudhary had sent a legal notice to Imran over defamatory remarks against him after which a counsel of the PTI chairman issued a clarification, following which the former chief justice withdrew the notice. However, today Chaudhry has filed a defamation suit against Imran.
