Judicial commission can be formed in 30 minutes if Imran wants: Dar
Minister says interpretation of law, constitution Supreme Court’s prerogative

INP

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar on Saturday said that the judicial commission to probe alleged electoral rigging can be formed in half an hour if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan wishes.

He said that the government wanted the commission to determine whether the rigging took place as organised conspiracy or not. Addressing a press conference here, Dar said that Imran wanted the word ‘conspiracy’ removed from the agreement draft. He offered that the PTI lawmakers to come back to the assemblies.

He said that the government’s conscience was clear and that Imran also needs to ‘widen’ his heart. The minister said that the PTI chairman should not waste nation’s time, adding that the commission can be formed within half an hour if he truly wants. He said that the government was willing to accept all demands within the bounds of law and the constitution.

Dar alleged that the break in dialogue was because of Imran’s statements, adding that The PTI chief deems the elections transparent only if the outcome was in his favour. He said that it was agreed with the PTI that the commission would be formed only as per the new constitution. The minister said that the commission would only rule in ‘yes’ and ‘no’ but, he alleged, the PTI wanted several answers to further complicate the issue.

He said that the review of five points about the electoral reforms has been completed and that the government’s conscience was clear. He urged the PTI lawmakers to return to the assemblies. The minister said that he has written another letter and sent an e-mail as well to the PTI negotiating team containing new definition of the scope of the work of the proposed judicial commission to probe allegations of rigging into 2013 general elections.

The minister said that new draft has been sent to the PTI as suggestion made by the party during latest round of talks on 20th of this month. He said that the remaining points could be sorted out and the judicial commission formed without any delay. He said that it was time to sort out the issues as a lot of time has already been consumed. To a question regarding the 21st Amendment, he said that the interpretation of the law and the constitution was Supreme Court’s prerogative.
