SC takes suo motu notice of child maid’s torture at hands of judge

A Supreme Court spokesperson informed media that Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo motu notice of the alleged torture of a child maid in Islamabad.

The notice was taken after media reported yesterday that the father of the 10-year-old child maid had pardoned the torturers.

Moreover, the Islamabad High Court’s registrar has been requested to submit a detailed report regarding the matter within 24 hours.

Earlier, pictures of the child showing her bruises were circulated on social media. In the FIR that was registered regarding the case, it was stated that the girl had been working at the house of Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan where she was often beaten. A particular incident cited in the report included one whereby the judge’s wife had burnt the child maid’s hand on the stove. Other incidents included the child being locked up in a storeroom and being starved.

The police had recently recovered the girl from the house of the judge.

However, on Tuesday, the father of the child appeared in court and said that he had no objections to the granting of bail to the suspects, thereby pardoning the perpetrators of violence against his child. He claimed that he had investigated the matter and found the case to be false.
