Nawaz’s cries tell of his replacement with another favourite: PPP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Tuesday said former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s hue and cry spoke of the fact that the establishment had replaced him with another blue-eyed boy.

In a rejoinder to the statement of Nawaz Sharif against the PPP, Secretary Information Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed said the PPP had been bearing all kinds of injustices being meted out by the PML-N government for the last five decades but it continued its struggle for democracy whereas Nawaz Sharif wanted to destroy the judiciary to save his skin. He said Hudaibiya and Niazi Services both had not been punished for their crimes. Manzoor said Nawaz Sharif should remember the injustices he had done to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

“Nawaz Sharif had cut Asif Ali Zardari's tongue and neck. It was Nawaz Sharif who initiated the terror cases against our political workers,” he added. He said like General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, Imran Khan Niazi too got what he had not even demanded. General Musharraf was allowed to amend the Constitution while the Election Commission proceedings against Imran Niazi were stopped, Manzoor said.

He said the PML-N and PTI both were buried in the quagmire of corruption and conspiracies and nation had seen their real faces. Meanwhile, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Tuesday said only Nawaz Sharif could tell about the launch of his Tehreek-e-Adal. Talking to reporters at the Parliament House after chairing a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, Khursheed said it was only Nawaz who could tell if he was launching another political party against Tehreek-e-Insaf. The opposition leader said he had always advised Nawaz against maligning the national institutions, as a clash among the state institutions would do no good to the country.

He said parliament was the supreme institution and all other institutions sought its assistance. “It seems there’s a clash between the government and other state institutions. There’s need to settle down the issue through talks, which would be better for the system,” he said.

Answering a question about army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s briefing to the Senate Committee of the Whole, Khursheed said it was not a new thing, as former army chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif had also given briefings to parliament. "It was a good practice," he remarked.

The opposition leader hailed Gen Bajwa for briefing the Senate panel and said it was a proof that everybody was on the same page for the national cause and would work together to defeat terrorism. To another question about the next elections, Khursheed said he was hopeful that the elections would be held on time. He also demanded a joint session of parliament to discuss issues related to national security and those facing the country.

"The recent attack on a church in Quetta and the dharna when some people stopped public mobility, and some international issues should be discussed in a joint session of parliament," he said.
